Our latest news, August 2008

THE annual competition between Bury and Colchester took place, when eight members from each club met in Bury for a day of golf croquet singles matches.

Brian Cash was Bury’s top player, winning all his games, as did Shirley Chrispin and Mollie Crawford, who played a half-day each. Ann Sweeney and Chris Howell dropped one game, and Jennifer Banks had an exceptionally good day, losing just two games on the 13th hoop.

Edme Robinette, Jan Oldfield and Sally Curry all won games, and the result of the day was a 27-13 win for Bury

Bury players were in action at Ipswich Croquet Club, for a level play competition. The first semi-final was played between Mike Percival and Brian Cash, both of Bury  with Mike beating Brian, 7-5.

In the second semi-final, Nick Archer (Watford CC) beat Charles Blyth (Downham CC),7-6.

In the final, Mike Percival’s long, attacking shots were no match for Nick Archer, Mike winning, 7-4.

In the play-off for third and fourth places, Brian Cash beat Charles Blythe, 7-3

Foundations' club golf tournament for handicaps 9-12

This competition is a singles golf tournament open to all club players with handicaps 9-12.
Free shots (bisques) will be in operation and games will be timed (the exact time to be determined - dependent on the number of entrants).
This is an opportunity for new players and they are really encouraged to enter since playing with free shots against more established players is very good practice and a good test of the skills learned this summer.
There will be a shared picnic on the day.
Time of starting to be determined (again dependent on the number of entrants).
